Tennis Lessons: A progressive learning approach for beginners

San Diego Tennis Lessons presents… A progressive learning approach for beginners

At San Diego Tennis Lessons, we like to teach our students using progressions. If your a parent or a weekend warrior and like to work on your game this article will be perfect for you. Using progressions is important because you start at the basic fundamentals and work your up to the advanced techniques. For example, let’s talk about the forehand. The basic way to hit a forehand is to bring your racquet straight back and point the racquet towards the back fence. Here at San Diego Tennis Lessons this is how we teach the basic forehand. However, once that technique is mastered we move on to a harder technique which is learning the loop. The loop technique is a little bit more advanced and requires more athleticism and skill. The best way to figure out to do the loop is draw a “C” with your racquet. This way you will get your racquet in perfect position and be able to provide topspin on the ball. Mastering the loop swing can be done without hitting any balls. You can practice the loop by doing shadow swings or copying your tennis coach while you watch him do it. Next, we are going to share with you what drills to do, that will help practice a shot such as the forehand using progressive methods.

Learning technique to drills

After learning the correct technique now you can move on to drills. We use progressive methods for drills as well as technique.  The sequence of drills should be this: hand feeding, racquet feeding and live ball. Tennis lessons should be made easy and we believe progressions is the most efficient way to get results!  If you trust in our progressive method of teaching technique and drills and you will notice the difference!
